Sorry No Sparks Again Can Anyone Help!!

Post by IAN 51 »

Right just at the early stage ive installing my Edis System (Ford X-flow) ive installed trigger wheel and crank sensor and have connected up the Edis unit and Coil pack to a permanent 12v supply (Just to test system so i can finalise my wiring after i know it works) i have also earthed the Edis unit direct to the battery just for this test.

I have no spark !!! I have run through a few tests and its starting to look like the Edis control unit is broken can somebody tell me if im heading in the right direction.

VR Sensor Voltage measured at pins 5 & 6 without the edis unit connected

1 mm Air Gap = 1.13 v AC
0.4mm Air Gap = 4.13 v AC

PIP
Stationary = 12.8 v DC
Cranking = 10.13 v DC (The drop incurred i would accosiate with normal starter motor voltage drop)

I have swapped the polarity for the crank sensor half a dozen times and a continuity test also confirms no cable breaks as does above test.

Im unable to read a pulse at the coil pack with the Edis unit connected

Pin 1&3 Stationary 0v
Pin 1&3 Cranking 0v
Pin 2 Stationary 12.5v
Pin 2 Cranking 10.13v

I anybody has any suggestions as to where the fault may lie they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

(Im off away on work tonight so wont respond until Wednesday any help suggestions or tests that you can reccomend will still be greatly appreciated)

Hi Ian,

While the EDIS modules are very robust, I agree, it could be the EDIS module based on the absence of a signal on the PIP line. Should be a quick check to swap in another module.

Let us know what you find out!
