What is it?

Post by Ratchet »

What is it? I built this even before I assembled my MJLJ V4 with Map. Afetr reading all the informative info in the forums about vacuum plenums/reservoirs I designed and built this 60cc Stainless Steel unit. I used a 60cc syringe full of water to get it as close to correct as possible. I estimate I am at 60 +/- .5cc. 1-5/8" diameter 16 gage (.062") wall tubing at 2-1/4" length. 1/8" thick end plates used so I can easily tap the ends for the fittings. And being obsessive, I added two 16gage screened plates about 1/2" in from each end as baffles to help smooth out the pulses. Next I will tig weld a stanless strap in the middle for mounting once I decide where I am going to put it (still building my engine). I have an A series 1275 in a '74 MG Midget running a DCOE 45 so I am going to draw two vacuum lines, one from each runner. Any suggestions for improvement are happily accepted.

That is a serious work of art! How many hours have you put into it?

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a sticky discussing vacuum reservoir sizes and their affects on the map readings- it has some interesting findings.

Don't forget to add an entry to the *powered by* section! would love to see your car and installation.

Thank you, Brent. I worked at a specialty stainless manufacturer for about 3 years and learned how easy it can be to work with stainless steel. What costs most for anything stainless is the finish time involved. I have about 4 hours into my plenum with 3 of those hours in finish work. The plenum section in the forums here was my inspiration for this work and why I chose 60cc as the size. Should get my head back from the porting specialist real soon and then I can assemble and take more photos.
Regards, Bret.
