bluetooth/RS232 adapter

Post by stanzeman17 »

Hello,

My new laptop does not have a serial port. I have purchased a Parani SD200 serial to blutooth adaptor with battery pack that works real well with all of my RS232 controlled devices except one of course! My MegaJolt V3 does not comunicate with this device.
I did set the baud rate at 4800 , no flow control. I dio get the "timeout reading runtime data" message. Maybe I am missing something?

Anyway, here is the link to the Parani SD200 technical page http://www.sena.com/download/datasheet/ds_parani_sd.pdf .

If anyone has a minute to look into this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

{edit: Oops. I thought it was 38400, but thats the V4 controller, 4800 is correct for V3}

The Bluetooth widget may be introducing some timing irregularities into the link - Have you had the software and your controller successfully communicating previously on a normal (non Bluetooth) USB adapter ?

Hello,

Thank you for your response. Yes, perfect communication with a norma prolific type USB to serial adaptor.

Thanks

OK problem solved. The solution was to make a cable with pin 2 and 3 swapped around. Works great now.

There you go- the null modem fix.

Where did you purchase that bluetooth adapter?

Hello Brent,

I bought it in the UK from Merlin Wireless but I guess that in the US, you can go direct to www.sena.com .

It works great. Its performance is not affected by the HV sparks. Very steady transmission. I am actually using the SD200 with the battery pack which may help reducing interferences.

Nice, I like that. I have a bunch of bluetooth stuff, phone, headphones(music and talk), home stereo gateway and car stereo. All for the purpose of music, but this is a cool concept for the Megajolt.

This one can be powered through pin9 of the serial port: http://www.ipenabled.com/firefly.html

It seems a little pricey($75), but for those that have laptop interference problems, this would be ideal. Bluetooth is a robust and underused technology.
