Mallory Tach w/ built in Rev Limiter & MJLJ

Post by idrivemyself »

I have a Mallory tach with the built in rev limiter, will using the built in limiter damage the MJLJ unit? Might it work with the system or will it be another useless knob in the car? (Hahaha...) IIRC the limiter works by sending out a pulse through the tach signal wire canceling the coil...

It sounds like a tach specifically designed to work with a Mallory ignition system.

Do you know the nature of the pulse it send back? That would determine if back-driving the MJLJ's tach output would be detrimental.

The tach and limiter were previously working with an MSD Blaster 2 coil and no additional systems. It is a very hard limiter btw...

Unfortunately Mallory no longer sells these units nor is information available online. I'll run a few tests with the tach and report back.
