Brent,
The solution was simple! I went to my PC and saw how 4.0.2 loaded itself (or rather, expanded itself). In the folder there was the .exe file, and two .dll files. Last night one of the errors stated something about not finding the data library, so that had to be those files. Make a long story short, I copied all three files onto the memory stick, and copied it to the laptop, and voila, it all works!!!!! All I want to do now is figure out how to save the scrolling runtime data.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: I don't know about trusting the rpm indication. I know my car's tach isn't the most accurate device, but at an idle of about 800 rpm, your program shows about 1,200 rpm. At 3,000 rpm, yours shows 4,200 rpm, and that's a tremendous discrepancy. I really don't think the engine is turning that fast - we're off by about 50%. How can I confirm the reality? What settings can I confirm to rule out something goofy?
HELP! Laptop won't communicate.

Hi mark! glad you got it working! Yep, the 3.2.1 software is fundamentally incompatible with V4 due to changes in controller design.
For the RPM issue, check your cylinder configuration under "global controller options". this is a separate read and write step from the main ignition configuration data.
