lots of problems

Post by bbbrad »

I have just built a v4. I have run the firmware installer sofeware, I cannot install the firmware, (will not accept the hc08 command). I then read the firmware may already be on the mjlj. So I try to run the config software and it will not run. NSIS error. Im getting very pissed. I have tryed on a vista laptop, and on a brand new windows 7 laptop, both with the same results. I have downloaded the files etc countless times. Still the same probs. I have got a brand new serial adaptor and loaded the drivers for it correctly. What am i doing wrong!!!???

Correct that the unit already has the firmware installed. If you are getting a NSIS error the software from our website may have not downloaded correctly (partial / interrupted download, etc).

Can you attach a screen shot of the error message you are getting?

Normally this is solved with a re-download but you are saying you have downloaded it several times. Is this when using the same internet connection? Can you download it from somewhere else (friends house, work, etc) and see if it can install that way?

Please keep us posted.

I have now downloaded the software on works xp desktop, with a very good connection to the net. Put it on a stick and brought it home. Installed it to my computer (windows 7) still get the same result. I then try it on my desktop xp which has a serial port as well. I get exacally the same message. Weather it be, xp, vista or windows 7. The error is something like this...
NSIS Error
installer integrity check has failed. comman causes include incomplete download and damaged media. contact the installers author to obtain a new copy.

I hope this helps.

hi, im in new zealand, i had some luck , i can download and run the 4.0.1 file, it wont communicate with the mjlj, but i suppose its because its not compatible with the firmware. anyway... i have discovered something. 4.0.0 is 1966kb, 4.0.1 is 1965kb, 4.0.2 is only 375kb!!! Problem?

bbbrad,

With regard to firmware- it's highly unlikely you need to re-install the firmware because we have done it already at the factory. Of course, it doesn't hurt to do it again (and again and again...), but I don't think we're dealing with firmware issues here. However: it can serve as a general test for serial communications, which is useful in and of itself.

Based on the size you reported, the 4.0.2 software you downloaded is clearly incomplete. The downloaded file size for the 4.0.2 software should be 2,014,267. I've verified from different vantage points on the internet that I can download the file correctly. Can anyone else try and verify?

However: the good news is 4.0.1 *is* compatible with your MJLJ- let's focus on that that. What error message do you get when you try to connect? Are you running this on a PC with a standard serial port, or USB->Serial adapter? If using a USB adapter, try testing it on a PC with a standard serial port.

Finally- another way to test communications is to test using the "Hyperterminal" app found on windows. Troubleshooting info here:

Closing thought:

*If* you are using a standard serial port and you cannot communicate with the unit using any mechanism (firmware upgrade program, Config Software, Hyperterminal troubleshooting) then you may be facing a kit assembly problem. Let's cross that bridge when we need to.

Report back!
