probleme at first connexion with laptop

Post by Frenchee »

Good morning;

I just finish welding my Mj junior.

I tried to connect it to my laptop ( pc with xp) through a usb serial adapter found on ebay.

After entering the line of command, with the MJ connected but not powered, I received this message:

"waiting for HC08 reset ACK..."

Then I powered the MJ, and

"waiting for HC08 reset ACK...received 0x00
Calibration pulse sent. count: XXXXX"

The count starts and doesn't stop, even when I unplugged the MJ.

Where did I messed up?

Hey Frenchee

Welcome to the forum and nice to see your giving the firmware an update.

The firmware you currently have on there will work a treat anyway.

The only thing i can think of, and i'm by no means an expert of uploading the firmware, is did you download the firmware programming software

If it works well the you should get:

Waiting for HC08 reset ACK...received 0xfc
Calibration break pulse sent. Count: 1

Hope this helps

Hello,

Welcome. Actually, you do not need to install the firmware: the firmware is pre-installed for you.

All you need to do is install the configuration software- download it here:

http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_Downloads

Direct link:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/asl_dist/m ... v4.0.2.exe

Try this and let us know how it goes. Remember to note the COM port for the usb adapter- you will need to configure this in the software.

Also, see the operation guide here:

So I started the MJLJ configurator v4.0.2
I have the MJ connected on port COM5
I changed the port on the configuration screen.
When I tried to upload the map, it writes:" timeout reading cylinder count"

Is it a probleme of assembly, do I have a poor usb adapter, or something else?

hi i had the same issue when writing firmware, i had to change the bit rate of the com port in device manager to 4800 then it worked.
i have a v3 jolt which i now have V4.0.1 software and firmware, but i also get the same message on the bottom of the software screen "timeout reading ignition configuration" quickly followed by "timeout reading cylinder count"
i think this is a communication problem but i am using a xp laptop with serial port and cable. :(

haimesyboi-

If you have a V3 unit you need to run the V3 configuration software- the V4 software will not work. You can download that version here:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_Downloads

Frenchee-

Since you are testing the unit for the first time after building you need to determine if:

1. Is there a problem due to assembly?

or

2. Is there a problem with the PC communicating with the MJLJ?

USB-Serial adapters are notoriously problematic- as you can tell by searching the forums. What I would suggest is to test with a PC that has a "built in" serial port. If you have to use a desktop PC, you can power the unit with a fresh 9V battery on the bench.

If you can communicate with the PC using a standard built-in serial port then you can work on why the USB-Serial adapter is not working for you.

Please keep us posted on your findings!

Thank you,

I've checked all the component's welding as much as I could, everythings seems fine.
I will try this week end an old laptop with serial port.
Hope this will work.

haimseyboi, reinstall the V3 software after removing all others and try from there.

The V4 software wont be able to talk to the V3 hardware as they are incompatible.

If you still don't have any success then you can send it to me to sort it out, if you want.

Hello again,
so now, my MJLJ is connected directly to the com1 of a "old new" pc with xp.
I still can't download anything, the indication at the bottom of the screen says :" timeout reading cylinder count" or for a short moment "timeout writing...."
Is there somthing I must check on the configuration of the PC or something else?
What can I do?
thanks for your help, again,
Eric
