Max advance at idle

Hi, I recently read that you should under no circumstances run more than 20 degrees static at idle, now the base map i have (standard metro turbo) starts at 27 degrees, is this ok? Is this due to the map compensating for having no vac advance?

Be very careful here, as the wrong timing can melt a turbo engine. I would say, what you have heard about running no more than 20 degrees static advance is correct. Where did you get the information for your base map of 27 degrees?

I don't have much experience with turbo engines but i do with mini's. I would go on a turbo mini forum and find out what other people have done on there and then double check to be safe and get the information required off experienced mini turbo owners.

Did you get the MAP sensor megajolt unit, as this does have the vacuum advance always connected.

Concerning the 27 degree base map, is this the lowest number on the map, can you post up all the numbers or can it be found on this forum somewhere???

Ah, i've been on turbominis since day one pretty much, the map is based on a standard dizzy i believe.

Thinking about it a bit more, the static advance is the advance of a dizzy without the vacuum advance attached. Once the vacuum advance is attached it will then provide even more advance so may well equate to 27 degrees advance. If that makes sense.

So to answer your question on the first post the advance is actually probably correct but i would play it safe to begin with and maybe not dial in as much advance as the 27 degrees then get a professional to tune it properly. At low load areas like these the advance is not so critical and there is a bit of a safe margin.
