Hello,
Hopefully a user in the UK can point you to a specific one you can purchase over there, but a high quality adapter based on the FTDI or prolific chipset would be best.
We have a little write-up on USB-serial adapters here:

I've had a look about for serial adapters in the UK and there are a few places available. They all seem to come with a cd but don't say what chipset they have.
Firstly maplins, which seem a bit over priced £15 http://maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29968
Then Novatech where the prices are a bit more reasonable £10 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prod ... -0039.html
and then of course ebay which start at about £3.50.
As too which to go for, i would contact the seller/company and ask if it would be possible to refund if they don't work with what you are connecting up as sometimes they don't or just send it back saying it doesn't work with your equipment, get a refund and try elsewhere. I would try novatech first personally.
Anyone else have any views on this here in UK??????????????????????????

I have tried 2 of the Maplins, and two other makes, all had a prolific chipset, and none worked. I have been told a differant chipset (FTDP or something?!) may work, but dont ask me what this all means, if its not nuts and bolts, i find it quite hard to fathom!!
In the end i got so p*ssed off with a converter, i set up a home PC in the garage as this had a serial port to match my MJLJ port!
Hope this helps
