as the title, i'm new to megajolt & i aquired a MAF version to use on my vw type 4 CU 2.0 aircooled motor in my t25/t3 (vanagon in america)
i have all the edis components such as the crank trigger senser, trigger wheel, edis module & coilpack, i also have a roll of sheilded microphone wire to hook everything up
i think i'll proboly need some step by step advice as i'm new to all this, i'm not really sure where to start other than asking if anyone has any megajolt maps for a 2.0 aircooled motor
my motor is running a pair of weber idf twinchokes, a full tubular exhaust instead of heat exchangers
hopefully there are other vw or porshe 4 cylinder aircooled people on here that can help
i have done some intial work which is i have figgered out how & where to mount my trigger wheel & senser, but i need guidance on how to hook up the edis & megajolt unit
also someone told me i can see what map is on my megajolt by hooking up a batter to the megajolt & my laptop to the megajolt but i'm unsure how
excuse all my questions i'm a bit clueless i a senc but i thik megajolt is the way forward fr my vw aircooled ignition & i'm hoping for more mpg & maybe smoother running & possibly more power, thanks all hope to hear something soon, really appreciated
hi all newbie her vw aircooled 2.0 type4 motor

if anyone can point me in the right direction or a link or two to what wires go where, i'm ok on mechanics & paintwork but wiring i'm a bit errrrrrrrrmmmm but i do have proper wiring crimps/cutters
i dont know where the crank sensor wires connect to on the edis/megajolt or the wirig colours to be honest, i'll have a search but if anyone knows of an porshe or vw related links plz post them up
i'll get some pics of my trigger wheel & sensor bracket

Hi and welcome to the forum.
With the shielding wire you need to attach the shield to a ground wire at the EDIS end, but do not connect the shield to ground at the engine end. This is beacause if your engine ground (big cable) was to come loose and you came to start the engine then a high current would pass through the shielding and melt your wires. Plus it is more hassle attaching the shielding to ground and there is no need.
Some EDIS units do not have a pin 7, so just attach it to the ground at pin 9. Pin 9 and pin 7 are connected to one another within the unit, so don't worry there is nothing special missing if you don't use pin 7.
I have a 9v battery adaptor i have fabbed up for use when powering up units off the car. All you need is one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44392 and then i used just 2 pins from the molex connector (as i'm not using all of my outputs) and attached to the ends of the wire. Its best to put some heatshrink over at least one connector so they cant short accidently. I also marked which pin is ground on the molex connector on the circuit board so don't make any mistakes.
Hope this helps some

right i think i'm starting to understand, i'll get a pic of my edis wires & if you chaps on here point me in the right direction, its probobly blindingly obvious when my mind clicks to it!
before i post pics i'll explain some of my edis wires
on the module i have a blue&yellow, blue&red, brown wire & on the other end of the clear sheathing the same wires com out but with a copper wire surrounding them like on TV coax cable?
next to that i have a blue&yellow, blue&green & brown wire that go into a black sort of heatshrink, the brown loops in to the heatshrink & comes back out, these wires also have the copper wres surounding the wires, i presume the copper wires are sheilding like they are on TV coax cable
i'm presuming at the moment the brown wires are the sheilding wires?
can i use one of my edis mounting screws as a grounding point?
these are probobly mind numbing questions to you chaps but i have'nt attempted this sort of thing before & i'm not the sharpest tool in my box so & i've probobly thrown myself into somthing i'll find difficul;t but i'm determind to see it through so be patiant with me :OD

Yes you are correct the copper wiring wrapped around the other wires is the shielding, not the brown wires. Just twist a length of it at the end and use a little solder to connect it to the ground wire. I find it best to comb it with the tip of a small flat screwdriver and then twist together.
I tend to find it best not to use the EDIS mounting screws as a ground. Instead use a dedicated ground like one of these http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... blades.php (look at stationary blades, SBH) or something similar and ensure there is good contact with the vehicles body/earth.
