idle solenoid valve?

Post by rkassed »

hi guys, i have a tr6 pi and want to install an idle control solenoid. can someone walk me through this? how do i set it up? the tr6 pi is a mechanically fuel injected engine and i was thinking of adding a/c and this would require bumping up the idle. thanks

Does the TR6 have an existing idle control solenoid or are you thinking of adapting one to the engine? In either case let us know how it works- via a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) signal or servo controlled.

well the idle valve that is on the car now is simply a screw, it is not powered, you set the idle with it and thats it but ive noticed it varies weather it is hot and humid out or cool. i do not have a valve yet so im open to suggestions.

The simplest approach would be a simple solenoid valve that could be turned on or off in parallel with AC compressor activation. The size of the solenoid would determine the "leak" past the throttle bodies and therefore determine how much idle-up there is. Technically this wouldn't be a solution solved by megajolt- but would be simple and effective none the less.

i was kind of hoping to install one to control the idle all the time, not just with a/c on and having it open fully. is this a possibility with the megajolt?

Hi Randy, The megajolt user outputs don't have a PWM capability- only 'on' or 'off' based on conditions you program (RPM threshold, Aux input threshold, MAP/TPS threshold). So, no built in capability for controlling idle in this way.
