have been trying to change this from zero but when i enter another value, and either hit read or write configuration,and commit to flash, i will go back to the global controller window, and the pip level will be back at zero again. am i doing something wrong?

The global values are stored separately from the main ignition configuration, so the Read/write/flash buttons on the *main toolbar* have no effect.

So: In the global window, make the change you desire, then click the "Write Options" in that window. If you close the window and go back in, you should see the changes stick.
