Doable? MJLJ w/ V8 + distributor + 2 ignition curves (LPG)

Post by _kai_ »

i'm looking for a programmable ignition system for my 71 mustang, which has a V8 engine.
i am converting it to dual-fuel LPG, which is why i need two separate ignition curves.
i also don't want to change it too much from it's original state, that's why i want to stick with the distributor.
but i will install a magnetic pickup.

there is a programmable MSD ignition box, which can obtain it's signal from either a crank trigger, or a magnetic pickup:

would that be possible setup for a MJLJ, too?

also, if it won't be possible to have two ignition curves, i'd like to be able to switch the MJLJ ignition curve on (when on LPG) or off (when on gasoline).
would that be possible, too?

and, at least can i run an V8 with the MJLJ at all?

many thanks in advance,
kai

The current mjlj unit will require a triggerwheel on the crank. The new units, well megajolt 'd' (distributor) will be able to use a signal from a ditributor but currently aren't available yet as they are in the pipeline.

There is a page on here somewhere but i can't seem to find it

Hi Kai,

Yes, the MJLJ will do: V8 & dual ignition maps.

Megajolt is crank fired / wasted spark only. The good thing with this is you will get a more powerful spark as you are spreading the spark energy across 4 coil packs instead of 1; The inconvenience is you will have to adapt a trigger wheel / sensor bracket and plug your distributor hole.

Please see the install and operational documents in our "how to" section for much more information.

I fitted Megajolt to my Rover v8 for exactly the same reasons with using LPG, see my post here:

Probably the best mod I have done to my car (apart from fitting the v8 :D )
