Trigger wheel compatability

Greetings: I have a Taurus sho v6 in a 1930 ford speedster. It is carburated and set up as rear wheel drive. Can my mj unit be triggered by the original crank trigger? Tyvm

I dont know how many people here would know what type of trigger wheel would be fitted to that engine as manufactured.

If its a 36-1 (36 teeth, 1 missing) Wheel (as used on Ford EDIS igntion equipped engines), then yes. If its any other sort, No.

If you dont know, hunt around for information on what type of wheel it is, or post a pacture of it and you're more likely to get a yes/no response.

After doing a quick search on the net i don't believe they do have the same type of triggerwheel so you would more than likely need to adapt a triggerwheel on to the crank to get the system to work. The original crank trigger will not work, I believe.

I disassembled my spare engine. The trigger wheel is approx. 3" in diameter. It has 3 windows. The sensor is a "Halls effect" type. (a powered magnet and seperate sensor with wheel rotating between.) Totally unusable.

What I have now is a 3" wheel from a guy on EBAY (with the right tooth count plus the notch),which he bored to the step already on my timing belt gear ($36 USD). With the crankshaft at #1 TDC, I marked the centerline of the mounting holes for my stock sensor on it. I then marked the 6th tooth CCW from the notch, lined it up and hand filed the keyway notch. Welded it on and belt sanded it flat.

I bought a sensor for a 1995 Ranger 4 cyl. $47 USD

Now I just make a mount to fit the stock holes and a custom thickness to center the sensor on the new wheel.
