So all my EDIS parts were off an inline 4 cylinder, and I assume the coil was originally mounted on one end as the plug wires go from very short to semi long. A couple of them are too short to use, and the rest are just in poor shape, so I need to buy a set.
For my VW though I am planning to mount the coil fairly close to center on the motor, and will need cables that are all reasonably long.
My plan was to just hit up autozone for some plug wires, but can anyone recommend a vehicle to ask them for that might have semi appropriate lengths.

the edis components I bought off of ebay came off of a ford escort and I just used the wires that came with it and they worked just fine but I mounted my coil on the shroud just behind where the distributor was, im not sure where you were planning on mounting yours.
Also you can take the rubber boots off of the vw wires that cover the spark plug holes in the cylinder tins and use them on the ford style spark plug wires that came with your edis its a tight fit but they will go on it makes a lot better spark plug wire than the original vw ones in my opinion.

David, I don't know where you are in the world but if you are in the UK we may be able to help. Let me know what lengths you desire and I'll see if the leads we stock match up.

I'm in the US, but thanks for the offer. I think I have my stuff sorted.
I double checked my wiring runs and it seem like the stock escort wires would have worked fine. Hit up a couple local auto parts places only to have none of them carry them in stock. So I ended up with a set from a V6 ranger for about $3 more ($28 versus $25).
It was just as hard to find a place that carried spark plugs that would work also since I was missing the removable screw on tips needed for them to work with the ford wires.
With any luck I will finish getting the mounting bracket for the for the coil welded up tonight, and should have everything from the coils to the plugs taken care of.

So this is what came off:
And this got mounted up:
Used a 3/4" x 1/8" piece of angle iron cut to length and drilled so it can be attached to the stock coil mounting holes. Then welded on 2 bolts point straight out, that the ford coil slides on over allowing it to be secured in place.
Plugs got replaced with some new NGK B7HS because I needed someone with the little screw on caps still in place. Plug wires were Autolites(from advance auto parts) originally for a 1990 v6 4.0 ford ranger (so I have 2 extra). I was going to get wires for a 4 cylinder escort, but no one had them in stock and these were only $3 more.
Next step is to get some shielded wire to connect the VR sensor to the EDIS controller, and then wiring that to the coil. Have to hit up a guitar center tomorrow tomorrow for some cable to use.

Hi David,
I've just received my megajolt and the EDIS, trigger wheel etc are on their way, then I can bolt it onto my baja with a type 1 motor like yours. Do you have any pictures of how you set up your trigger wheel and VR sensor? I think this is going to be the hardest part of my build....
Thanks, Marc.
