MAP sensor takeoff with carb balance tube

Post by eric_f »

Hey guys

I have a 1968 VW Beetle with a 1600 engine with dual Kadrons. I have converted to MJLJ and am trying to figure out the best way to run the air line from the carbs.
What I would like to do is this: Pull out the current brass fittings from the manifolds, tap to 1/8 NPT, put some AN flare fittings in, and use a 3/8 (-6 AN) hose with the proper ends to run between. That is easy enough, my problem is where do I tee into it for the MJLJ. The best spot for ease and looks would be directly off of the drivers side manifold. I'm just wondering if having it directly off of one manifold and 2.5 feet away from the other would cause issues.

I can still put an air plenum in somewhere (I gotta convert from nice stainless steel hose to plastic somewhere). My thoughts on this were, run 1/4 (or -4 AN) from the tee, and when it's out of site, put it into the plenum and run plastic out the other side into the passenger compartment and hooked up to the MJLJ.

If that's not good, I was thinking put the tee directly in the middle of the balance tube and then do basically the same thing, that however may cause issue with carb linkage and the like getting in the way.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't go too crazy with AN lines and such. I mean it is just a vacuum source. Run a rubber line from each manifold to a vacuum reservoir and mount it behind the shroud, you'll never see it. Then from there run to your MJLJ, done.

Also, I wouldn't put the EDIS module so close to the coilpack, you may get some interference from that. I put my EDIS module right next to the MJLJ, and ran a shielded cable to the VR and some nice heavy wires to the coilpack. Also I did TPS on my dual 44IDF, not a real good vacuum source!

I know it's just a vacuum line but I want all the lines that are visible to be nice stainless lines. I guess however if I turn the manifolds around you won't see them. Still though, same question, take off one side no good? I should put a reservoir in the middle and take off that.
