I have a VW coil pack (and the right plugs n wotnot), this may seems like an absurd question, however, can I use that instead of the ford pack or are they completely different?
Will try and get some part numbers (to get operation schematics) if that helps. It'd be nice to use VW if I can for a more OEM look on my car (sad, I know... but it has to be done, lol)
Cheers,
Rich

Using a VW Coil Pack

as long as it just a coil and doesn't have built-in drivers it will almost certainly work. The primary windings should be about 0.6 ohms and the secondary be 10-15K ohms.
Yes! coil pack alternatives should be research and exploited. Never thought the form factor for the Ford coil packs were especially convenient.

OK, so I've been lazy and not actually tested the unit I have... however... found this thread
This thread seems pretty conclusive in it's application. The coil pack I have is a Bosch one, with four pins, so I think we may well be golden. The upside is that it also comes with a rather nice alloy bracket that will come in handy for mounting options, as well as giving my engine bay a more OEM look (the EDIS unit itself is going to be hidden away anyways
The coil pack I am using is available from Rock Auto and can be found on the following vehicles;
Just gives folks a bit more option I suppose
I'll try and get some decent pictures of it (and the mount!!) tomorrow.
