Another can't read cylinder count problem.

Post by RollerSkate »

Hi,
i've been through the archieves to try & sort this one out but no joy & i'm getting a bit fed up now.

I've tried connecting to the Megajolt with 3 different laptops XP/ Vista & 7 via a Prolific USB adapter & always get the 'cylinder count' time out. So i dug out an old XP PC with a serial port & that doesn't work either, the com port is definetly OK as hyper terminal says so, but when i try the 'C' to the megajolt i get nothing back.
I have checked all the voltages on the board & they are OK, the LED lights up & also checked all the soldered joints which are good.
The com port lead is good & the wires go where they should.
The car fires on the EDIS but the jolt unit is just not playing, what next?

Anyone help?

Hello,

Just to be clear- does the Megajolt control ignition advance when the engine is running (verify using a timing light) or does it stay fixed at 10 degrees BTDC?

What version Megajolt do you have? And was it built as a solder-yourself-kit, or pre-assembled/tested?

You can also try re-flashing the firmware of the unit- follow these instructions, making sure you select the firmware for the version of megajolt you have:

Hi Brent, glad you turned up,

it does nothing, the kit was made by myself (and i hate to sy it, but i am an elec tech, so the soldering should be ok) & the kit is a V4.
i'll try a reflash tomorrow if i can get the time, as i work most days.

cheers
Brad

Turns out it was a bent pin on the Jolt conns bulkhead so that the TX pin wasn't making contact, i'll get the unit back later this week & hopefully it will take a map & we can get the engine going.

Glad you got it working. Not sure which bent pin on what connector you're referring to? is it on the Megajolt board or the serial adapter cable?
