Megajolt Lite Jr troubles

Post by Mike998 »

I am one of many by the looks of things, who can't get the box to talk to the laptop.

I have Megajolt Lite JR, no idea which version, as it was bought off someone else, any way of telling?

I have a laptop running vista, and a serial-to-usb cable from amazon, and some Prolific software my computer downloaded automatically.

I don't really know what's going on here, so a point in the right direction would be a huge help.

It just says could not open port at the bottom of the configurator at the moment.

Cheers,

Mike

Ahh, just found which port the usb is on, and now have 'Timeout reading cylinder count' at the bottom.

Just out of interest, does the megajolt have to be plugged in for it to be working? or can i take it out the car and sit in the warm and try and get it to work?

99% of the time timeout errors are problems with the usb converter

do you have the correct drivers installed for the converter?

do you have a pc/laptop with an rs232 port on it so you can connect it up without the adaptor

you can power up using a 9v battery, using the 2 terminals on the right hand side of the plug for power and earth

have a look in the guide for which pins to use

Okay, I've heard that before, was hoping a proper cable rather than an eBay one would solve it, but maybe not.

I don't, no, but I'm fairly sure my parents will have one in their loft somewhere...

Thats good, I'll give it another shot today out of the car to see if it makes any difference..

Thanks for the help

Just another quick question, is there an option switch pin on the 14pin molex plug on my megajolt? I can't seem to mind a wiring diagram for it here on the website.

Hi, yes- you definitely need to have the Megajolt powered in order to communicate with it.

If your molex plug has 15 pins and your circuit board is green then you have a V3 controller.

Use these for reference:
http://autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_vehicl ... tion_guide
http://autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_Operation_Guide

and use the V3 software to communicate with your controller. Try this version first:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/asl_dist/m ... v3.2.1.exe

For the option switch, you can find the wiring information here:
http://autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_vehicl ... E_3.1.0.29

Sorry for the late reply,

Its all working! Turns out the Megajolt didn't have a good power source, hence why the computer couldn't see it, as it wasn't on!

Cable (Serial to USB off amazon) works fine, and I would recommend as it was only £3 or so

As for the option switch, I'm not sure there is a pin for it on my version of MJ? Its a V3 with a 14pin molex.

Thanks for the help

Hi, just read through the V3 installation instructions, in regards to the option switch wiring you linked me too:
"For the option switch, you can find the wiring information here:
http://autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_vehicl ... E_3.1.0.29"
It says: "To enable this feature you must have controller firmware V3.1.0 or later installed, and the feature must be enabled in the controller (covered later)." But i couldn't find any reference later in the page to enabling the software?

I'm currently using V3.3.2, and it is talking to the box in the car fine, but i dont know exactly what version the box is.

Can you help?

Cheers
