i'v got a well modded vw mk2 golf 2.0 8v running a single 45mm DHLA and am having problems getting the right ignition curve from the standard dizzy.
i'v been talking to a few people who surgessted using a dizzy from an late mk2 (Digifant) with a 4-angle 90degree signal, MJLM and some EDIS-4 ford parts to enable to get my car se up correctly.
is this possable and do's anyone know what would be involed.

Well, I presume you mean MJLJ 
I have no direct experience of MJLJ on Golf, but in general you will need the normal full set of EDIS-4 components, i.e. a 36-1 crank trigger wheel, a VR sensor, an EDIS-4 module, a wasted spark coil, plug leads to fit and a MJLJ unit.
The EDIS-4 will only take an input from a VR sensor pointing at a 36-1 crank trigger wheel, so changing your dizzy (or even using a dizzy to feed the MJLJ at all) is not an option - in fact, you won't need a dizzy at all by the time you've finished.
Can a 36-1 crank trigger wheel can actually be fitted to your engine? - I've no idea, but I'm sure someone will be along to answer that soon.

The majority of the work involves getting the ford EDIS system installed on your engine. As you might've gathered from your research, the Ford EDIS system will work by itself in a 'limp home' mode where the ignition advance is fixed at 10* BTDC. Once the EDIS system is operational, wiring up the MJLJ to control the ignition timing is simple, with only 2 wires going to the EDIS module.
In your case it appears that you cannot or prefer not to mount the traditional crank sensor wheel as seen in typical EDIS installations. In this case, you would need to precisely re-create the timing signals regularly seen by the crank sensor, but through the distributor. It may be possible and would entail some custom work and fabrication. However, I have not seen it done yet. Perhaps you'll be the first to figure it out?
If you want the easier route I would recommend adapting a crank trigger wheel to the existing crank and adapting the EDIS system in the conventional way.

the reason i ask is cos i have a late ecu controlled dizzy (has no mechanical advance) and a triger/crank wheel from a late vw again 4 angle - 90 degree which i could use (and have space for) but by the sounds of it, it's not possable.

In the end it comes down to getting the Ford EDIS system working- independent of MJLJ. As such you need to conform to the EDIS module's requirements. MJLJ simply communicates with the EDIS module, communicating the ignition advance, based on RPM and load measurements.

been looking in to the EDIS system and looks like i can use a late zetec coil pack with my vw leads which makes thing a bit easier.
is there any advantage/disadvantage in using a throttle Position sensor?
if you are coming to the uk would it be possable for you to bring a complete pre programmed unit to the uk and post it hear?
