What does the flashing red light in the antenna mean? Sometimes I see it flashing, other times I don't but it doesn't seem to affect the data.

Flashing Red means sats are acquired and it is getting position data. The sensor is on our car so I cant recall the maker/model, but if you google that info you can find out the Indicator light codes.

a 1 second flash on the module indicates a satellite lock-on. You can observe the behaviour after a cold start (wait for about 30 minutes and then apply power)
