36-1 wheel on triumph gt6

Post by dmooney65 »

Hi all,

Does anyone here have experience mounting a 36-1 wheel on a triumph or similar crank pulley? Since the water pump pulley cannot be spaced (cannot be removed actually), I think I may be limited to mounting the wheel on the outside of the pulley, which may cause a few problems with VR sensor mounting.

Any help would be appreciated.

On the outside

I don't know about the GT6, but I've mounted my timing wheel on the outside on my XFlow installation. I think it's quite a common solution.

Dolly Sprint

Post by Flossie »

Hi I've mounted mine on a dolly sprint by simply reversing the belt section that fits over the main bolt through part. I know this makes no sense but i'll get some pic's sorted out tommorrow.

Flossie, whereabouts are you? I'd be interested in having a look at your installation. Do you mean you took the rim off the crank pulley and turned it to face the other way? Or turned the whole pulley round? What type of fan have you got? Photos would help I think, unless you live round the corner! I have an assembled unit, but haven't got round to fitting it yet. Cheers,

David

36-1 wheel mount

Post by michael »

Hi all

I welded the 36-1 wheel on to the back of my bottom pulley for my Spitfire MKIV with no problems at all. Clearance was not a issue.
If it go's on a little 1.3l then it will fit the GT6.

Dolly Sprint installation

Guys,

Have you managed to get your Sprint installations working? If not, have a look at how I did it (on a TR7):

36-1 on Spit

Dominic,
I installed the wheel on the back of my 1500 pulley. I attached it with 6-#8 allen head screws w/loc-tite with 1/4" alluminum spacer between the pulley and wheel. I made the first two holes slightly bigger so could adjust the pulley to exact center then drilled the rest of the holes and tapped the screws into the pulley. I then mounted the VR sensor using a 1/4 plate attached to a couple of the timing cover bolts.
