Vauxhall / Opel XE installation

Post by quinnynw64 »

Hello All,
I have a spare XE in the garage that I am considering converting to Fireblade Carbs. Would anyone be willing to offer any advice / tips regarding this type of installation, particularly the EDIS and trigger wheel side of things? Is it straight forward enough and what sort of gains could I expect over the standard motor?
Thanks in advance
Richard

I have done just this. I'm using a Ford timing wheel attached to the V-belt pulley with the VR sensor mounted off a bracket on the belt cover.

I'm not fully mapped and dyno'd yet but a standard XE on 45 carbs should produce approx 180bhp compared to the standard injection setup's 156bhp.

I'm running my xe on megajolt and works fine,good power en responce.
I would be happy to give you the map.
double weber 40 carbs,intake and outlet work and big exhaust.
You don't always need the 45 carbs to get higer power, certainly with
stock cams.
Everybody is talking about 45 carbs but in most cases they work
only for 70 or 80% on there engines.
In that case you get the same or sometimes even better results with
smaler ones.
Only when the engine is breathing enough it can handel the 45 carbs.

The races starting this month again and so there wil be some more tuning to take place!!!

How can I put a picture on here of my install?

regards Ivan

Thanks for the replies.
At the moment I am considering two options:
The first is to run Megajolt and the Fireblade carbs as described above.
The second is to go for Megasquirt and bike ITB's.

Both setups are not without their problems. Number 1 would be considerably cheaper but may lead to jetting problems with the bike carbs. The second one would be more expensive but would give more flexibility and features and should be easier to set up. But, the difference in physical size of bike injectors and car injectors may lead to problems in obtaining suitable injectors.

Any thoughts or suggestions as to the best way forward would be welcomed.
Many thanks

In my oppinion the bike injectors will do fine as these are capeble
for high rpm they chould deliver enough for the engine.
The megasquirt will give you more flex for sure.

XE Map

Post by chriscook »

Here is my current map for my XE engine using a TPS. I think it is fairly safe as it is a first guess from a rolling road/tuning guy and has been run on a dyno but my head gasket was a bit dodgy. Use at your own risk etc etc:

The map bins correspond to my TPS they are NOT MAP values.

decision made...

Well, I've decided on MJLJ to start with. I now have everything I need but it will be a while before the engine is in the car and I get anywhere near running anything. Chris, do you have your map as a mj file that I can just import to save me typing it all in?

Bro. Copy the text bellow, then open notepad (notepad.exe) and paste the text into it and save it as myMap.cfg, when saving choose All Files option.

-------------------- Copy bellow ----------------------

userOutType1=1
revLimit=77
userOutType0=1
rpmBins=5,10,15,20,30,40,50,60,70,75
advance9=11,12,15,16,20,21,25,28,29,29

advance4=15,15,16,17,22,23,27,30,34,34
advance3=15,15,16,17,22,25,28,31,35,35
mapBins=48,70,90,110,130,150,170,190,210,230
advance2=16,15,16,17,22,26,29,32,38,38
advance1=16,14,15,17,22,26,30,32,40,40
advance0=16,13,15,20,22,26,31,32,40,43
cylinders=4
userOutMode3=1
userOutMode2=0
userOutMode1=0
userOutMode0=0
shiftLight=70
userOutValue3=5
userOutValue2=60
userOutValue1=50
userOutType3=1
userOutValue0=40
userOutType2=1

------------- Copy above -------------------

Then depending on the tuner you use you can either open this file or import it.
