So, as I understand it, MegaSquirt 1 only does EFI and MegaSquirt 2 does both EFI and spark, but neither will do DIS. If this is right, I take it that the best combination is to use MegaSquirt and MJLJ. (I don't want to deal with a mechanical distributor anymore.)
If so, are there any special measures that need to be taken when using both MJLJ and MS 1 or 2 in a car? They don't need to interact with each other, do they? I would expect not, since with ignition you're mainly going to be controlling advance, but after a full day's worth of reading the various MJ* MS* pages, everything kinda runs together and it's hard to be sure of anything.
Thanks
MJLJ + MS1/2 cooperation?

If you want fuel and spark
If you want fuel and spark in an integrated MS* box with the ignition driven by EDIS, then you need Megasquirt'n'spark with the right options

and here..

I have this set up running
I have this set up running on my car.I fitted Megajolt lite to it last year when running a carb and have just upgraded to Megasquirt running V3.0 software and a V2.2 board.I used the Tacho output from the megajolt, on mine it is a 5v signal as it is the earlier v2.5 unit.I have so far left the ignition map as it was and am just setting up the injection at the moment, it all seems to work ok together.

standard vs MSnS
Strange, my last comment completely didn't show up - that sucks.. I'll summarize here:
While MSnS does sound really nice, I'm leaning towards having separate units because:
1) it will prob be easier to get help for the stock MS setup, as more people are likely to have tried that than the 3rd party MSnS "extra" code
2) i'd like to get the stuff working in two parts - the easier EDIS/MJLJ first, and then the more complicated MS
Sorry for the brevity, it sucks to lose your more well thought out post and have to replace it with whatever you can remember. :/

I run MS-1 with a V2.2 board
I run MS-1 with a V2.2 board along with MJLJ. The tach output from the MJLJ works as a great trigger for the MS. I was getting ready to convert mine to MSnS EDIS but the new tuning software for MJLJ now runs on WIN95 so I see no need. I also like the extra RPM and KPA based outputs of the MJLJ wich would be lost.
As a side note, I did go ahead and convert to MSnS firmware because it also has better fuel control with 12x12 tables, better warm-up tables, staged injection, etc...... I still run my ignition with MJLJ though. I think it is the best of both worlds and doesn't over tax the MS-1 processor
