I am struggling to find the correct cable, can anyone point me in the right direction like an RS part number or Maplins, etc.
Would a extension cable be OK?
Cheers

A DB9 extension cable is just what you need! I don't think Maplins sell them:-(
I bought 5 of these a few months ago (from this seller). They were nicely flexible (I bought some others that had a 'mind of their own' and were a bit of a pain) and they work fine - they also sell 10m ones if you want to be a long way from the MJLJ!...

I made my own
I made my own by buying 2 suitable D types and then just used some old telephone extension 4 core cable... wired the 3 pins needed direct pin to pin and it just works...
