1st post and yes I need help !
Have fitted EDIS 8 Trigger wheel sensor etc etc and ECU. The problem I still have is triggering the ECU.
Normally on the V8, the EFI ECU is triggerred by a single wire taken off the -ve coil side, which also has a 6.8K resistor in it. When we first wired up the MegaJolt system we tried conncting the wire to the tach output on both the EDIS 8 and the Megajolt in turn, neither worked, when we crank the engine it seems as though its going to start, but does not get the signal and therefore doesn't.
My mate who did the wiring then went the diodes route, soldering 1 on to each coil wire, and then grouped to a zener, and then this was connceted to the ECU wire, this did work and it fired up, but :
I am not convinced that it is working properly, seems to have a slight misfire or hicup if you hold at any set revs, this is not a misfire but seems like it, it could also be the Ign MAP and timings being wrongish, but I have spent a day tweaking the MAP settings on the timing, and its made little or no difference ?
So Q is is there another way of triggerring the EFI ECU (fallper type) to run on MegaJolt please ?

Need to check the basics now you've got it running...
1. Does the engine run with the MJLJ completely disconnected (ie sat on the bench!)? It should do, since it will be being run by the EDIS in 'limp home' mode
2. If yes, what is the timing as shown by your timing light? It should be 10 BTDC. If it's not, then you have an installation error - the trigger wheel/sensor alignment is incorrect
3. Is the timing rock solid at 10 BTDC? It should be. If not you might be picking up noise on the VR sensor wires.
4. Set up a simple map in the MJLJ - all rows (MAP values) the same, the advance in the columns (RPM) increasing.
5. Connect the MJLJ.
6. What happens when you rev the engine and look at the advance with a timing light - does it change with changing rpm? Is it rock solid if you hold the engine at a fixed rpm?

Rock solid, in fact its amazing, with all the V8s I have ever had I expect a "Wander" !!

But drive down the road at a set RPM and it sort of gently lurches just a bit, like a hicup
I am wondering, as this is a very highly tuned ex race engine if its the buckets of the 10 x 10 MAP vs Ignitionm and fuelling combo ?
I do NOT like the 4x diodes and Zener "Bodge" to get the ECU to trigger, neither does my mate who is an ex PCB enginner, does anyone have any other ideas as to how to rigger the ECU EFI with Megajolt ???

Yep, I am here :-)
I have fitted the megajolt lite jr on my TR7 16V and I had to keep the distributor in situ. I then put it to good use by using it as my tach output - that is no changes to wiring, except I replaced my coil with a 1K resistor.
Given this, why not keep you existing distributor, swop the coil for a 1K (or similar) resistor remove the plug leads and let it run in parallel with the megajolt, powering the FI ECU and, of course, the tach?
BTW, I have a TR7 V8 and would like to fit the megajolt on to it. Have you details of the trigger wheel and sensor mountings? Any photos? Any spares of these Rover V8 bespoke items for sale - pretty please

Fridge (John Utteridge) and other pointed me here as I am looking for options to the bodged way I have got it to run, I have now someother options to try, the dizzy route is not one of them though, been there tried that. The Flapper ECU from the V8 is the problem as the frequency signal it wnats it doesn't seem to like at the mo, hence the zener route.
Ho hum, doesn't look hopefull for alternative fixs here :O(
Was hoping someone had found the problem I have and devised a neater better solution - lets hope the options I have to try this weekend work :O) ?

Problem when you "Modify" anything is you tend to "Blame" what been fitted !
Today has seen me mucking about with :
Plugs (new BCP7RESs Plug leads (check and check again) connectors, connections, etc etc etc
None made any difference. A mate then mentioned that I now had a massive spark, and the hiccup sounded more like Fuel than Ignition - he was right.
Luckily being a Ex Race Engine the ECU has a Fuel adjuster, so I wound it up, at +30.5% (and as tho this thing doesn't use enough fuel already :O) the V8 behaved smoothly, and gained even more "Umph"
So, anyone who has seen a V8 90 Simexed 90 whizzing up and down the A286 all day at high rpm - that were me !
Ta all for your help, I have one item that I will post up seopeartely as I think many will like to know
FORD Coil Packs - the Plug that goes into it - I have all the part numbers and contact details for a firm that supplies them new - saves on joining / joints etc
Next is a trip to a 4wd Rolling road, that should see some real tunning :O)

Nice pictures of the V8 and Megajolt
Thanks for sharing the information. It looks like a simple angle bracket is OK for the trigger sensor. What I am not sure about is how you mounted the trigger wheel - is it welded or bolted? Also, can you tell us the alignment of the 'cut out' with respect to the TDC markings on the pulley? It seems the V8 pulley assembly can have the trigger wheel notches added directly, if I can find a good machine shop.
Another thing that has complicated my installation is that I was going to place the coil pack either side of my radiator. I notice that your installation is not on a 'coil pack per bank' basis and so I will have a crossover mishmash of sparkplug leads - not good.
