hi
can anyone tell me if you "have" to us a "tps"?
why i ask is ive got the mjlj installed in a ford fiesta 1.8 zetec running twin 40 Weber's and the car seems to run fine.
The other thing is i cant seem to get the unit to connect to my pc though the usb port , i think i have download the software correctly but im know pc expert. is there an easy step by step guide to follow?
cheers simon

You don't have to use a TPS, as it will of course work as an RPM only lookup. The difference in behaviour at light throttle is significant though, and you can expect a 20% fuel consumption improvement if you invest in a TPS and a mapping session. The payback time on a road car is pretty quick.
As for USB serial problems, there have been loads of threads. I wont duplicate them here,

I have Ford 4.6L motor, EFI.
I have Ford 4.6L motor, EFI. It works fine with MAP. If I change it to TPS will I get a fuel consuption improvement?

I wouldn't have thought so.
I wouldn't have thought so. The big improvement in fuel consumption comes when you go from 2D to 3D. MAP and TPS are just different ways of measuring engine load, and should give comparable efficiency if properly mapped.
So above in a thread you
So above in a thread you told the guy he will expect a 20% better fuel efficiency, that's for going from dist to EDIS, and not from MAP sensor to TPS sensor?

2D to 3D is key
You get big fuel consumption improvements when you optimize the ignition for load as well as RPM. How you sense load is a secondary issue, so MAP and TPS sensors give comparable efficiency.
I have some experience of engines with DCOE webers and 2D and 3D ignition, so the 20% improvement comes from my own experiences.
