Hi all,
I have built my MJLJ and have now connected it to my laptop using a usb to 232 converter and it seems to be working, I guess this is the case as when I opened it up for the first time it said I had not loaded a file, so I pressed the button "Get Config" and the table populated with numbers and I noticed on the converter that the lights did flash saying that transmission was taking place, I have just carried out another test and loaded up a basic map which gave me another set of numbers, I then pressed "get config" and the original figures came back...... am I right in my assumption?
Once it loaded it shows MAP numbers on an orange table on the left......I have my system built with a TPS how do I get figures for this?
Does anyone have a map for a DOHC Ford engine?
What does all the jargon stand for? I am somewhat flumoxed by it all.
Is there a book I can get to try and learn about this technology as I am fasinated by it?
I am sorry for what may seem silly questions but I am a total novice to these wonders.
Thank you
Bob

It all seems to be working
It all seems to be working well! To set up some starter TPS values I would try and set the thresholds to give approximately equal step. You can start with the throttle closed for your lowest threshold, open the throttle 10% (I used a ruler to measure the exposed cable length) and make that your next threshold, and so on.
As for background on the technology, there are a lot of quite distinct areas. There is the combustion theory, ignition electronics, sensor electronics, microcontrollers, embedded programming and PC programming. Where do you want to start?

Setting up and maps
Take a look at this site. It details how to calibrate your tps and gives a couple of zetec maps. My suggestion would be to start with the 2d map just to check everything seems to work, then upload the 3d. Works fine in my car, 2 litre westfield, 40 dcoe's.

GET CONFIG - transfer
GET CONFIG - transfer configuration from Megajolt to tuning software
UPDATE CONFIG - transfer configuration from tuning software to Megajolt
WRITE FLASH - save configuration inside Megajolt so it won't get lost when u power off
CONSOLIDATED UPDATES - UPDATE CONFIG then WRITE FLASH in one step
To modify your Megajolt configuration you'd start tuning program, press Get Config, modify a value, then press Update Config. When you modify a value in the tuning program it is not updated in Megajolt until you press Update Config. You can also Save and Load tuning tables via File menu. (or Import and Export from a different format, again inside File menu)
You want to have a copy of your setup in a file, so that if Megajolt dies or something happens you don't loose your work.
Check out tuning software for Windows. Click on Top 5 files section on the right >>>>>>

Thank you all for your help on this matter. IU certainly have enough to read up on to increase my knowledge on this.
One question I do need to ask though you state there is a windows tuning programme, what is its name as it does not jump out and bite me.
Thanks Again
