agree, that is an option.

agree, that is an option. the desire to support 'older' laptops without usb has diminished quite a bit, in my opinion.

having said that, the v.next MJLJ will likely support usb.

Maximum length for a USB

Post by 4600cc »

Maximum length for a USB cable is 15 feet, which is a little short and will limit you to basically having your laptop on passenger seat. This is a problem..

The PC will have a 9 pin

Post by MartinM »

The PC will have a 9 pin connector with male pins...

so the PC end of the cable will therefore be female...

...with straight-thru connections (1-1, 2-2 etc)...

to the MJLJ end of the cable which will have male pins...

to plug into the female connector on the MJLJ

You need an Male to Female

Post by 4600cc »

You need an Male to Female connector, around 50 feet long, if you want to do with with a PC. 50, or 100 feet cable will do, cost should be around $20. Try searching for "M F DB9"

This is the case where 15 foot USB cable is useless. That and if you using a USB you have to write and maintain a separate driver. Using USB is not as simple as using serial, and you can be sure there will be hick ups with users, just like currently there are hick ups with users using USB to Serial adapters.

By the way, Im writing a software called MBCT Wizard, which will trouble shoot basic communications issues with Megajolt.
