Help with ports.........

Post by Jenko »

Hi there.....

Just about to install the MJ software on my Lap top, and just noticed that my laptop only has a port labeled monitor and printer....can I use any of these for the serial connection?....................Or do I need a USB adaptor?????.............

The instructions supplied mention settings for the ports, and again in device manager I do not have this option.....FYI, runing XP and Laptop is Pentium4 (about two yrs old).......................

Thanks in advance for any advice.....Paul...

USB - Serial

Post by bhwm »

You must use a serial port, so you need to get a USB to Serial converter. They are not very expensive and should be fairly simple to set up. If you have any difficulty search the forum - there are a few threads on this topic.

Not Always needed to alter

Post by Conrad »

Not Always needed to alter Baud Rate, Data Bits Parity, Stop Bits, Flow control if u use standard "Tuner" software downloadable on this site these seting wil only be available if u got a serial port conected
Hint as soon as u got usb adapter and intalled and got it conected do folowing to get correct "Com" port
Right click properties on my computer , Hardware , device manager look for ports in ports u wil have an ???? usb to serial bridge with a com port number next to it on my computer it is COM4 select this port in "Tuner" Tools-options

Goodluck let us know if working
