runtime display problems

I assenbled my mega jolt and instaled it into my car.But when I pull up my runtime display it shows the rpm's as 2197483647.The only issue I can see is that when I assembled it I did not have the 2n2222a transister and used one from radio shack that says it is a mps2222a.Is this my problem or is there something else?
