I'm using a USB to 9 pin male lead, connects to the PC running the program downloaded using Todd Charles simple instructions.

No joy, (can't find comm. Port one)....I've renamed the USB port as one but still no good....what am I doing wrong.

You might try doing a search
You might try doing a search on "usb adapters". I think some others here have had some success with these. I never followed the threads as my old laptop has a serial port. Infact my new XP desktop has one and it is the one I used for programming my MJLJ. Just hook a battery to it for initial programming.
