tuning question

Post by Ivan »

My engine is finnaly running and everything works
Now that it is running,I have been trying to tune it.
There is comming a lot of noise out of the exhaust we call it backfire when it is in the inlet but I don't know how it is called when this happens in the exhaust.
It seems to fire the most after reving it and while the throttle is closed. I tryed to advance or retard the ignition in the bins when the throttle is closed but no difference what so ever.
Is this something coused by the carbs or are my tuning skills worthless.
Even with the basic map for 20xe engine fire on the hole!!!!

Ivan, don't be discouraged

Ivan, don't be discouraged but tuning is actually pretty difficult. You can either pay for a tuning session on a rolling road or you can determine the advance characterisitics of a distributor system and then copy that in to your Megajolt.

tuning question

Post by Ivan »

I would like to determine the advance characteristics of the distributor but it isn't possible with my engine being installed
in a car where there is no room for the distributor and thats why
I need the MJLJ.
If I find an other car with the same engine how do I need to work?
Just take a timinglight and mesure the advance every 1000 revs and
what about the load?
I wil need to mesure this on a rolling road (this is a power output bench isn't it?)
An other problem is the cams there are different onse in place but
I don't know which ones.

Your best option is to use a generic 'safe' ignition curve- there are some in the files download section you can use.

The next thing is to tune with a Dyno/Rolling Road and see where you can gain power, safely.

Like Oliver indicated, it takes patience and time.

The loud noise that is comming out of the back has probebly somthing
to do with the 63 mm exhoust, but the banging is better after regulating the carbs again.
Now I found out that there is a diference in the advance between what
I put in and the runtime display. When I put in 10 deg is shows 12 deg. Is this something with the alinement of the VR sensor?
