trouble with switchable outputs and tacho

Post by turbohippy »

hey up all, hopeing someone can shed some light on some problems im having,
im running a v3 board and having a few problems, im getting no power from the tacho output, and the 4 switchable outputs wont work on the rpm settings?
they work fine when switched via a map reading. and to top it all the runtime display isn't working, the bar graph for the map pressure works, but no rpm and the highlighted box wont move about on the table, it wont move up and down on the map pressure or across on rpm!!?? the car seems to run reasonably on the jolt tho?
any help or info atall woudl be most apreciated! im getting stumped
steve

edit: just realised the cars not actualy running on the jolt atall, its running on failsafe! its hurting my head now!

Doh! Was thinking about this overnight and that was the conclusion I came to!

These symptoms are absolutely exactly consistent with the MJLJ not receiving an rpm indication from the EDIS.

You probably have (at least) no incoming PIP signal from the EDIS to the MJLJ. Double check your connections and you might find this post useful as well..

Either wiring from MJ to EDIS, or MJ itself is bad.

If engine is running at a constant 10 BTDC, then that means Megajolt is getting PIP signal from VRS. Lack of timing would suggest lack of SAW signal from Megajolt to EDIS module. Different EDIS modules have different wirings, EDIS-4 vs 6 and 8. The fact that your engine works, means that connections made between EDIS and the rest of your car are good. Assume you wired Megajolt to EDIS improperly. Double check every wire going from EDIS to Megajolt. Then Assume that there is something wrong with your Megajolt.

There is some experience of people trying to hook up a tach to EDIS and confusing where to start counting from, so look very closely at that.

Sorry, but that's not (edit) necessarily (/edit) correct (and the PIP signal comes from the EDIS, not the VRS anyway!)

If your engine is running at a constant 10BTDC then in order of likeliness:
- MJLJ is not getting PIP from EDIS
- EDIS is not getting SAW from MJLJ
- every point in the MJLJ advance map is set to 10 BTDC (!)

lol just had another look at the wiring out of the edis4. turns out i had the saw and pip back to front, ive checked it half a dozen times and from the drawing i made it was right, turns out the drawing was wrong tho! its all working lovely now, can finaly set to and start playing a little,

the cars a 1976 mini clubman with a 1380cc turbo engine,
just for referance!

Sorry, I might have screwed up with wording there. I had my install in my head. But the idea I had was right anyways, which read "Either wiring from MJ to EDIS, or MJ itself is bad", he confused the wiring like most people do. :)
