V3 board questions

Post by escortdan »

We have now a fully working v3 board that we can talk to and have mapped with a base map so far and the car has started from it.

Should the car still run if the ecu becomes disconnected!? We tried this last night and the car keeps running?! Should this happen?

Seems strange but was just a test to see what would happen, does the edis continue to run the car and where does it get it's timing and other info to run it from!? Also the tps sensor we have has 3 wires on it, does anyone know who to wire this into the ecu!?

Hi Dan

Good to hear the MJLJ is working fine now that it has a new processor!

Yes, the engine should run with the MJLJ disconnected. It's one of the design features of the original EDIS - if the EEC-IV module failed (which we replace with the MJLJ, of course) then you could still 'limp-home' The timing will be fixed at 10 BTDC, so most engines will continue to run, start and idle ok, but have no power at higher rpm.

How does it get it's timing info - well, that all in the magic of the EDIS unit!

For the TPS:
- one 'end' wire goes to pin 6
- the other 'end' wire goes to pin 8
- the 'central' wire goes to pin 9

I presume you have the TPS components in place on the board - I can't remeber if I saw them or not.

BTW you (will) have an email...

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the mail it is very very helpful!

Yes the board we ordered was a TPS one as that works better for what we want to use. thanks for the info, was just a little puzzeled as to why it still ran but at least we know now and it's not a wiring fault or anything silly we have done!

Thank you martin, you have been a massive help!

Dan
