Question ref EDIS wiring

Post by matnrach »

Hi,
Just purchased a built Megajolt and looking at the installation.
I got all the other parts from a scrappy recently and have looked at the EDIS.
Can't remember what car the EDIS came from (I think it was an Escort) but the crank sensor wiring does not seem to be shielded as shown in the Megajolt instructions.
Also the wire from the crank sensor itself (1.8 Sierra) was not shielded.
Is this normal since the PIP and SAW wires are both shielded?
Thanks in advance

Interesting....

On one of my EDIS units, the tail on the sensor is two core only (blue/yellow and blue/green) but the tail on the cable for the EDIS module is two core (same colours) with an overall screen.

Somewhere in the Ford wiring, the screen from the EDIS module must be terminated somewhere.

I wouldn't worry about it...

Thanks for info.
On your EDIS, are the two shields connected together near the plug as shown on all the diagrams?
If so I think I will just make my loom (crank, PIP/SAW) with shielded wire.

The two sheilds can go together, yes, but DON'T connect the sheild earth together with the main earth - it has cause some people all kinds of trouble.

Also, I completely concur as regards the unsheilded cables - most of the cars I've seen haven't had it.
