For those intending using an MJLJ in an offroader (or similar).

Put a small dab of hotmelt glue on both sides of the voltage regulator, on one side of the electrolytic capacitors and on both sides of the pressure sensor. Do NOT use silicone sealer, ALL of them produce some acid. In an emergency even beeswax or candle wax dribbled onto the board will do.

Use this approach with a MegaSquirt too as these types of components are likely to crack leads with vibration. Even high dollar commercial units have similar problems!

Good advice, thanks. This is for some high impact though, I can report, unfortunately, that after 120 mph or so crash my Megajolt worked perfectly. I span on wet highway last year, and went into metal bar rear first, after getting knocked out and a lot of oil smoke, it started right up and drove me home.

There is some lacquer or something similar that you can rub onto board and prevent moisture from damaging in.

The material most suited is called a 'conformal coating' and is very often a moisture resistant and flexible material suited to tropical environments.

Can be had in rattle cans for easy spray on application although most succesful in a dip form (ie dip the whole board in the stuff).

Electronics outlets like Jameco etc (USA) or Jaycar etc (Aust) usually have it available.

If you are sure that you don't EVER want to work on the board then dip it in a good quality clear acrylic auto laquer. The board will then survive outdoors in Antarctica!

Cheers guys, we're recording high frequency shocks of about 20g over 2 hour stints, so far has been ok, but anything to make sure!
