Seperate 12v feed to coil pack?

Post by T3tone »

Does anyone else run the edis/megajolt/coil pack from the same 12v supply?
Im getting stable rpm and map values and engine sounds smooth with no missing but when checking timing (sealey TL85 timing light with advance) the light shows rock solid advance apart from a very occasional retard flash. I was thinking it might be getting confused with the wasted spark or would i be better off having a seperate supply for the coil? Also is the supressor on the 12v supply to the megajolt required? (as in diagram below)

Many Thanks,

Can't see the point of doing anything else. There are some pictures of my installation at <a http://community.webshots.com/album/187 ... webshot photos. It sounds like the Megajolt is picking up some spikes, in which case you need to experiment with grounding arrangements.

Problem solved

I have found that when my timing gun advance dial is set to 0 the timing is very stable, as soon as you try to read any advance using the guns dial (reading off tdc marks) the light shows the timing as unstable. I see that others have had similar issues with timing lights with advance on. It seems to mostly read correct timing with the odd flash at double the actual advance. Hope this helps others who have scratched there heads while checking timing, just set gun to 0 degrees and see if it reads stable timing.
