Can someone help a newbie please.
I have MJLJ with built in EDIS.
After lots of frustration i have managed to dowload Bray's terminal, connect MJLJ box to laptop via USB converter and finally this afternoon managed to get a lot of hex code back when i send C and S.
I have loaded Java J2RE 1.4.2_13 and followed instructions ref unzipping javacomm and MJLJtune taking care to copy relevant files into respective locations.
MJLJtune will load up. However i cannt get it to talk to the lapttop to get the current config - any ideas please?
To fault find i brought the box and leads into work. Ive powered it up from an unknown life 9V battery, could this be the reason why i cant get the config from MJLJ?
I have managed a temp install on the car (2D for now) and got the car started albeit rough. My main problems are getting the laptop to communicate to the MJLJ.
Can i safely assume the MJLJ box is OK if i got the hex code back?
My laptop does have a serial port but i cant get this to work. ive uninstalled the Nokia software (and rebooted) in case that was the culprit.
I have searched before posting (hence brays terminal use when hyperterminal wouldnt work). Cant find the last piece of the puzzle?
Thanks in advance,
Darren.
(PS i have a track day coming up in a week so getting desperate now. Im near Bishop Auckland (UK) if anyone is local, Car is Mac#1 Motorsports ZR with 2.0 Pinto)
Ive got no hair left!!

I should be local "ish" to you on Saturday afternoon... Scotch Corner Hotel from 2PM to be exact. (white Capri with 2 litre pinto). Unfortunately I don't have a laptop at the moment. Although I may be able to "borrow" one from work for the weekend. It has a very bad battery though and may only last a couple of minutes. I have a load of trial maps on floppy too.
If you are around, pop and say hello... you could try your laptop on my MJLJ V3 to rule that out I suppose.
Also, I used the windows tuner by 4600cc to set mine up.
If you do pop along, look out for this car:

Darren,
The Java software is long obsolte. Have you tried the windows configuration software? Download and install from here:

This is going to sound well cheesy but credit where credit is due.
Brent - you are a complete star, many thanks for the email.
V3 config has worked a treat. I had to uninstall loads of Nokia and Sony phone programmes out and play around with brays terminal to set up the com port. Even after doing this the old config just wouldnt work. Within 5 mins with new software i had the base map uploaded.
I also found out why car ran rough - map starts at 28deg 500 rpm and slowly climbs to 34deg at 3,500. 28 is way too much so i cant wait to get home now and re-connect it to the car and play with some settings (reminder to self - set it at 10 deg to start and check VR sensor postion with strobe first).
CT - what is on at Scotch Corner tomorrow?? Im at Etherley so its just a nice run to Piercebrige and then up through West Auckland. Hopefully i will be sorted tonight - thanks for the offer.
Many Thanks again,
Darren.

Scotch Corner Hotel tomorrow... lots of nutty Capri owners and old skool fords meeting up for a chat and a pint. Just thought it would be close enough to you if you needed to meet up to try things as I have a V3 MJLJ setup on my 2.1 Pinto.
Sounds like you have it sorted though, so I'll leave the laptop here at work.

Excellent!! I'm happy you were able to get up and running.
As an exchange, could you post some pictures from the weekend in the "Success stories forum??"
