Just another Tacho Question?

Post by xwdewar »

Guys I have done a quick install of my setup and it all appears to be working fine. Im in Australia with a pre-crossflow inline 6, 250 CI with a 2V head running LPG and ULP.
I just need to drill a few holes and mount it all correctly and it will run fine, then tuning and it will be perfect.
The Question I have is, my tacho at the mo is a single wire from the negative of my single coil, do I need to hook up three wires from the 6pack coils through three diodes to one wire for my tacho to work? Using a Ford coilpack with 4 wire connector as per the EDIS-6 wiring diag.
Following the diagram in the 'how to' section. Which I believe is for a 4pot only.

Cheers in advance.

Hi Rob,

Your assumption is correct- if you're wiring up the diode circuit, for a 6 cylinder you would have 3 diodes- one for each input into the coil pack.

Hi, I'm running the EDIS 6 Ford parts and trying to get correct power to my Smiths OEM Tach in a 1968 E Type Jaguar. Looking for recent information, wiring diagrams, suggestions to those that similar setup and powered Tach. TIA

Hello Mike,

Most of the challenges with the Smiths tach involve getting the right RPM signal to it. We've covered a number of options in our installation guide, here: http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V3_ve ... tion_guide
