Another dumb question!

Post by DannyP »

I have all the parts and just have a question about one, the thing that looks like a capacitor or filter on the coilpack loom.

You can see it here:http://home.earthlink.net/~beanbooger/b ... gineering/

It is taped into the loom, and I have one also. Do I need it to filter the power supply to the coil?
Or is it unnecessary?

Thanks, guys.

It's a capacitor, it appears on some wiring diagrams and it appears physically on some EDIS installations.

The conventional wisdom is that it's just for suppression purposes eg stopping your radio crackling etc.

It doesn't filter the supply to the coil in the normal sense of an inline supply filter.

If you've got it, you might as well leave it in....

Thanks, Martin. I found it on some other site in a wiring diagram, I only asked because I didn't find it here, which is THE site! I'll leave it in, as it can't hurt, thanks!

It will hurt if it goes short circuit though! I'd probably leave it in despite that risk...

And of course my power leads will be fused!
