A little help please

Post by Tom »

I'm having a couple of problems with my Megajolt.
when i connect my laptop to it it reads the map out ok but will not save a new map, i get 'wrote map' show then a 'runtime timeout' message appears and it hasn't saved to th mj.

i got the hyperlink working and when i pressed 'C' i got a load of symbols on various lines and stopped showing a music note symbol and a letter. Then when i pressed S it all disappeared - is this right?

Also when trying to update to the V3.2.1 I enter the hco8sprg.exe code but keep getting a win32 error popping up - what am i doing wrong?

please help!!!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Tom,

First thing first.

Regarding the software- a few questions:

What version of windows?
USB->Serial adapter, or built in serial port?
Do you see the error when the engine is running, or just with the ignition 'on'?
Does it show the runtime activity when the engine is running?

HI Brent,
1. XP
2. USB to serial
3. Just when ignition on (i've got no oil pressure  )

I think, when i first tested it off the car it worked ok. I sent a new map to it and retrieved ok powered off a 9v battery

i think i might have an old ibm laptop somewhere with a serial port on it is it worth trying that?

Thanks, Tom

When you tested it off of the car were you using the same computer as now?

Sure- try the IBM laptop and see what happens.

Hi Brent,
a quick update: i had the engine running today and i was seeing running values in the configurator (on xp). After i switched off and on again (the engine) it wouldn't show it.

I also managed to change the map but it took a while, i changed the first value from 12 to 11 and wrote it to the mjlj but i got the runtime error come up again so i left it while i played with the carbs, when i went back to it it had accepted the map but wouldn't change again after that.

Do i have to set up the serial - usb cable up with the same values as hyper terminal i.e 4800
8
1
none

Thanks for your help

I found it - i was confused by the 'navigate to directory' bit on the instructions. I asked our techy guy at work and he showed me the 'cd\*****' thing that i had to do.

but

now i'm getting a 'forgot to set single wire mode?' fault coming up. what have i done? broke it?
pants :(

Let us know how you sorted it....

'forgot to set single wire mode?' has come up before and the fix that has worked for some people is rather drastic (replacing one of the chips)...
...so if it was an easy fix, I'm sure the community will be interested!
