Initial mapping

Post by bon_corno »

Hi

At last I finished bench tests of MJ, EDIS and my custom trigger wheel. Now I'm trying to prepare my initial mapping for my first run on car tonight. I wonder what my starting advance should be. My normally aspirated engine's standard advance at idle is 7º. Should I enter 0º to the idle rpm or 7º?

Another question is about vacuum. I guess pressure of the atmosphere is the maximum possible pressure for a normally aspirated engine. Is this correct? If yes, then while mapping I can start from quiet above the pressure of the atmosphere which is 110! Why all of the maps I downloaded go up to 200s?

You would need 7 degrees for your idle.

Maps going up to 200's...two reasons:
- they're MAP maps for turbo engines
- they're uncalibrated TPS maps, where 0 == closed throttle, 255 == fully open throttle, assuming a perfect TPS

I'd suggest 15 to 105 for your MAP map - keeps it all neatly in increments of 10. You're most likely max vacuum is probably around 25kPa and atmospheric sometimes get to 102-103 so you're well covered in this range

Actually, I never thought it could be TPS value.

Thanks for these quick and clear answers.
