will my aux drive pulley make a difference to operation

Post by andy_gte »

Hi i am currently awaiting delive3ry of my mjlj kit from the states and in the mean time i have decided to get down to the installation side of things while i wait,

I'm applying my mjlj to a 1989 vauxhall/opel engine but still using the ford edis module etc for it.

My qestion is this, on my engine the bottom crank shaft pulley is covered by the alternator drive belt pulley, (e.g. the crank drives the alt belt)

would it cause any problems if i was to mount my trigger wheel onto the face of the aux drive belt pulley?? bearing in mind it is approximately 8" diameter??

if it won;t be a problem this would also give me the option of having the 36-1 teeth machined into the aux belt pulley

regards

andy

Is the extra pulley keyed to the crankshaft? If so, then you should be OK. If not - then you may want to lock it to the crank pulley in some way (roll-pins into the crank pulley, for example).

NB: This is a guess, 'cos I don't know Vauxhall engines very well!

t is keyed to the crank shaft mate, thanks for the info.

It locates on the central shaft then is located by a bolt either side of the central shaft, i thought it would be ok as the TDC mark is on the outer aux belt puley so must be relative to cranks position but i just wanted to check first

thanks again

Hopefully it is made of steel or iron also, cause aluminium won't help you. I am not talking down to you, I forget simple stuff ALL the time 8) !

thanks for the advice

do you mean if i was going to machine the teeth into the actual pulley itself?? if not then why would drilling and tapping a few holes to mount the trigger wheel make any diference?

If you were going to machine the teeth into the pulley then it would have to be made of ferrous material - if you going to just tap a few holes in it to mount a trigger wheel, then it doesn't matter what it's made of...
