Tacho and shark gauges

Post by dave1888 »

I am in the process of wiring up and testing my shark tacho purchased from Dolphin gauges in the US. The gauge requires a neg input from the coil, i have tried the diode method ( i assume a diode each from pins 10 and 12 on the edis 4 unit to a zener.) and connecting it to the edis without diodes and mj, but with no joy in moving the neddle. Is there anyway of checking to see if there is a neg kick back coming from either source.

A quick troubleshooting step is to simply connect it to the negative of one side of the coil.

If it works, it should show 1/2 actual RPM. This should at least let you know your tach is basically alive, and then you can troubleshoot from there.

For the diode circuit, different techniques have been tried with success. Try searching for 'diode' - I'm sure you'll get a lot of results!

You should also verify if the tach can accept a simple 12v square wave signal- if so, you could tap into the PIP signal on the EDIS module.
