Crank triggers for A-series in USA

Help! I am trying to find a crank trigger wheel large enough to fit over my crank damper. I need to have a wheel with a big enough ID to open up to 5.5", this is after removing the trigger from its mount. Does anyone know which American Ford has a big enough wheel? UK parts might as well be from Mars as far as my ability to cross them into US parts.

hi. sorry if i am just pointing out the bleeding obvious, but you can buy new in various sizes here:

or make your own... aside from having the right number of teeth, and a gap, the exact dimensions are not especially critical. without wishing to rehash previous discussions, i have a trigger wheel only 30mm across, with 1mm teeth. some have made them much larger but quite thin, and so on.

I would like to install the wheel on my crank damper by means of an interferance fit and I do not see why I should not be able to use a junkyard part. There seem to be several UK Ford engines that have a suitable trigger, it also seems likely that there might be one or two made by Ford USA too. I am quite capable of recognizing "the bleeding obvious", but thanks for the tip.

perhaps you could try looking on these models:

The EDIS-8 module is used on the following vehicles equipped with the 4.6 liter V-8 Ford Modular engine between 1990 and 1997:

* Lincoln Town Car
* Ford Crown Victoria / Mercury Grand Marquis
* Ford Thunderbird / Mercury Cougar
* Ford Mustang

The EDIS-8 Module was also used in Some later 5.0L Ford Explorers until around 2002

Brent, the messiah of this device which fascinates us so much, runs a trigger from a US Ford Escort - as do I, the same part from a UK Sierra.

Thanks for the help. I got an escort crank pulley and am trying to remove the trigger wheel. I have a non-standard damper as i am running a belt drive timing set-up as well as a cogged belt alternator drive. The damper is held on to the crank pulley with 4 bolts that appear to match up with the 4 mount holes on the trigger wheel, in fact at TDC on number 1 it appears that I will only need to open the holes on the trigger to the correct size and bolt it up with a suitable spacer.

Any tips on how to remove the trigger wheel from the Escort crank pulley? I removed the bolts, but so far there is no joy...

Somebody posted on here that they used some heat and a hammer. I machined the serpentine pulley off on a lathe, leaving the cast iron center as I needed it to attach to my crank pulley.

The largest Ford trigger wheel I could find is the USA Escort. The UK wheels, and the other USA wheels are all smaller. The Escort wheel is 5.7 inch. Larger aftermarket wheels are available.

Would something like this work for BMC A-series engine?

My A-series crankshaft pulley is only 5.5" diameter (nissan A-series, but much like the BMC A-series). So I fitted the Escort USA wheel spaced out a bit in front of it. It works fine and is solidly mounted. I kept the Escort wheel on the ford hub and just cut the belt pulley off of it.
