So what sort of shift light is it?

Where have you got it wired to?

Was it on or off when it got hot?

Isn't it a bit unusual to drive down a motorway with the shift light on?

its the one off this site.
i am going to have multiple stage lights that come on through the revs so if im on the motorway its gonna set fire and kill everyone.
its wired up to a 12v battery as told to.

Hm- I will double-check on my end. No known problems so far- they're designed to work on 12V. I did not expect a problem with them running on the voltages seen in a typical automotive electrical system.

How long did you have them on? And how hot is hot- too hot to touch?

Was your engine running at the time? Could you measure the voltage while they are on? If the engine was not running, could you check them with the engine not running?

Chech it connected the correct way around - LEDs can get very hot if the polarity's reversed.
