cold starting

Post by alfa boxer »

Hello , I have read that when an engine is cold petrol is harder to ignite, I was hoping that this is the reason my engine runs rough on start up even with a bit of choke. my engine calls for 8 degrees +- 1 at 800-1000 rpm. once its warm no problems, so i tried a cunning plan and put the mjlj on a switch so i could power it off for a minute and it ran really smooth when cold, edis 12 degrees, this is as basic as it gets, then after a minute I power up the mjlj . Will the mjlj be ok used in this maner long term?

That would work perfectly fine. Alternatively, you can use the dual switchable map option and specify a custom map for cold starting.

Temp sensor Input

Post by alfa boxer »

Hi Brent,

Just a quicky, you where saying the other day that you might be devloping a way to get a temp sensor input with current Mjlj, would it be possable for this to trigger one of the outputs to operate map switching? How does map swithing work, do i need another mjlj?

Does this mean I will be able to remove my on/off switch for cold starting? :D
Many thanks again.

A feature like this would provide a +/- ignition advance based on the measured analog input (in this case, temperature). To accomplish this, the controller would take the measured value (temp.) and apply it against a lookup table in flash memory. The selected value in the table would be used to adjust the current ignition advance.

I think this should meet your requirements, if I understand them correctly. No map switching needed!

Hi Brent,

Thanks for the quick reply, this is an even better solution. I look forward to this addition roughly when can you see it being ready?

Hi Lee,

Can't say exactly the timeline- but it is near the top of the list!
