Coilpack and MJLJ proximity

Post by charlie »

Afternoon all,

How close can the MJLJ and coilpacks be without causing any trouble? Presumably the coil has a fairly large electromagnetic field when sparking, which has the potential to induce some fairly large voltage spikes in surrounding electronic equipment. Does this interfere at all with the MJLJ operation?

Or to put it another way: has anyone had any problems when mounting the coilpack on one side of a bulkhead, and the MJLJ on the other?

I only ask as I want to mount the coilpack on the NS of the bulkhead in the engine bay and the MJLJ underneath the dash in the passenger compartment ('83 Mini), about 8" apart.

Sorry if it's been asked before - I have done a forum search but couldn't immediately see anything.

Thanks in advance,
Charlie.

Welcome Charlie

8" apart, and on either side of a metal bulkhead, sounds fine to me....
