Timing off

Post by 910esprit »

I have just finished my installation and i am having a slight problem with the the timing.

The EDIS is giving a spark at 7.5 deg. which means that any the MJ advance figures are 3 deg out, Now everything runs fine and i could just add 3 deg to my figures on the map, but being a bit fussy i want it right.

My question is that that if i am 2.5 deg out then the sensor must me half a tooth out of alignment (make sense so far?) if this is the case which way should i move the sensor? i.e is it at 87.5 deg or at 92.5 deg at the moment?

I hope this makes sense.

The trigger wheel if fixed to the crank wheel so moving the sensor is the easiest solution. The installation is mid mounted longitudinal so very difficult to gain access most is going to be by feel.

your spark is occurring too late, so you should move the sensor against the direction of rotation of the trigger wheel. that way the gap will reach the sensor earlier, and your spark will occur earlier.

Thanks Alexander,

I have it fixed now, I have taken the trigger wheel of and moved it 2.5 degrees. I decided that moving the sensor was taking the easy way out and the proper way was to time the wheel right.

But thanks for the advice.
